taennyn: (no-one's idea of a mona lisa)
Or something, anyway. I've survived late December! I baked!* I decorated gingerbread!

*: Once without the benefit of dry measures because intended destination oven was Occupied, Thank You! That was exciting.

To start off, the kits were old (this is fine. I salute the fiscal decision), so the frosting was a bit uncooperative.

Also, I made the mistake of reading the box on the Gingerbread Carousel, because what, and was promptly recruited to help assemble it.

Please examine the box image:

I made a valiant effort with the reindeer (and was nearly accused of dark sorcery by someone who didn't realise we'd raided a second, unused, kit for block-assembly frosting in addition to the line details of doom required by the tiny cookies' printing).

Two of the candycane supports were broken, and the kit instructions said to leave them in their plastic, which got Exciting for a while there in the 'roof keeps trying to slither away' sense. But we triumphed!

.....And then they made us assemble a train kit because we were done. (SO much faster.)

In other news, I wrapped stuff.

I also had a very tiny amount of Violently Green wrapping paper left over after finishing the Doyle collection.

Things may have happened.

Pasta monster or bow? You decide

That is all super cute, I've got to say.

...is there a typo or missing word in your footnote, or does one of those words that *are* there have a meaning I don't know about or whaaaat I am confused.

Ed has learned to make mince pies. This would be worrying but he doesn't know how to make mincemeat and we've now run out, so I think I'm safe from the mincepiepocalypse for now.

Oh, *that's* the missing piece. ;) (It... somehow hadn't occurred to me that 'so I cooked in a different kitchen' was a possibility).

Two whole jars of mincemeat... Twenty-something pies in the end I think. So I won't be taking any into work... which is probably good... because we have a lot of vegetarians and that would be mean.

I'm voting radioactive Thread, which is falling upon the polar icecap of Pern, along with a few brave, well dressed penguins which are assembled to defeat it(I hope they brought flame throwers with them).

(yum, gingerbread)

I think those stories were on my mind 'cause there was a thread asking about the Most Michael Whelan Cover That Ever Whelaned and naturally, The White Dragon was mentioned. Nostalgia may have reared its head, yeah. =D

...and now I'm thinking of his other covers, like Dragon Prince, which is still legitimately one of my favorite books.

Oh man, I lived on that series while I was commuting to work from NYC from PA. OK, that series, random bowls of buttered white rice, way too much candy, and way too little sleep. I think I hallucinated a few chapters; all I remember is a lot of mental screeching at characters to stop wandering off, omg. I loved it so much though! My parents sold the whole set in a yard sale the following year. I need to pick it up and read it again sometime.
