It wasn't until after she'd received her change, pocketed it and gone her merry way that she realised why the coins had felt funny in her palm.

Ducking into an alley so as to try to confirm her suspicion, she dug into the pocket, pulled out four coins, and tinked them about together with the fingers of her other hand.

Sighing, she made a mental note to separate them from her normal spending money, and to drop them off with a smith sometime soon.

They were good forgeries, well stamped and plated in the metal they should be entirely, but the cores were iron or steel, and they were buzzing in time with her heartbeat already.

:) I was flipping between iron and steel and finally went with the latter because iron would rust. (Why this was so important to be a deciding factor is another question.)

I wonder if they could pull any tricks with steel coins?
