It's a bad sign when the hand with the fingers that go numb on a regular basis is the good hand.

Saw UW medical hand specialist, got more x-rays, steriod shot (probable source of current shooting pains in right forearm) and CT scan of wrist (upside-down scan of both wrists may have contributed to shooting pains). No obvious conclusions, doctor thinks may have unusually large spacing between forearm bones where they meet the wrist bones, but wants me to get MRI, as well.

MRI radiology dept. will be closed all of month of July, getting new scanner. So they shoved me into an appointment 8:30 AM tomorrow morning for dye injection, and 9:30 for scanning.

Was going to be able to make up all sick time for the week (4 hours!) with overtime. Will have to take sick time for tomorrow.

Mostly, however, am at OW. Will definitely be giving feedback re: steriod shot with exclamation points attached.

Sometimes I carry around an empty lighter in the coin pocket of my jeans. I keep meaning to fill it, but really, I open and close it so often just for the click that it might dry out before I ever used it for its intended purpose.

It's got a Soviet symbol on the side. It's real--one of the Russians my father kept contact with sent it, after he'd heard that I'd like a russian lighter.

I don't carry it around because of the symbol on the side--I've no illusions that socialism worked, in that society.

I carry it 'round because it's real, not someone's imitation. A piece of someone's story, reminder that not every story must be told.
