She is naturally an indulgent sort. She gives good gifts at every opportunity, matches things to tastes and means (what's the good of records if there's no gramaphone to play them on?), buys herself wonderful clothes and gets in every bar fight that comes her way for the sheer joy of fighting. She has lovers in every city.

But the true indulgence is sitting here, with the men who remember her from before she struck her bargain, listening to them talk and laugh and exist.
