They'd got through. The last of the triage was complete, the last of the stitches were being set, and her entire shift could sit down with five bottles of bartered vodka and exhaustion-shaky hands.

Evdokia sitting to her right did the standard doubletake everyone was still doing--Nadya very much included--when she turned to pass Nadya the first of the bottles. Nadya fished it out of her hand, took an uncultured pull directly from the bottle, and passed it on.

Her eyebrows were still blonder than they'd been, but they were growing back in their proper shade and shape, so she'd stopped worrying about it. Just doubletaked every time she caught a glimpse of herself in a reflective surface, and definitely checked where the coolant pipes were when she had to do emergency work aboard injured horses.

By the time the second bottle came to her, her hands had stopped shaking a little too much to bother with one of the pretty crystal glasses Dr Olenko had liberated from an officer six shifts back in exchange for not entering certain information into the officer's medical records, so she leaned forward for a glass, filled it, toasted the war since Heléne Alexeivna had already toasted to beautiful men.

Dr Olenko toasted to beautiful women, but Dr Olenko had been running anesthetic for twelve hours straight, so she dimpled and preened when he leaned over to fill her glass. It was only fair.

Her eyebrows and lashes got quite bleached, so she looks different than usual. She was initially concerned she was going to lose some or most of the hair.

Is good - feels like that first moment where you can let the adrenaline go, just sit, drop the tension. And booze up if it's there. =P
