So I was whining at dormouse_in_tea last night about how I dun wanna write an essay on Darwin (not for lack of interest or material so much as pure dun-wanna). I've already turned in two essays (I have options for three, and the prof takes the highest two grades), and the one I'd got back was 95%.

She sensibly inquired if I'd had any sense of Foreboding and Doom. I replied that aside from a great deal of muttering, no. (Seriously, you can look back in the tag and see how very much I dislike the Enlightenment)

This morning I got back the Enlightenment essay. My prof was talking about how he kept getting interrupted while he was working on grading 'em, and that he put more comments on papers that seemed to need it more and that some of the really good essays got very little in the way of comments.

The Enlightenment Essay Question: "Was natural science really affected by the Enlightenment in an fundamental way, or did the Enlightenment depend on science while science itself pursued an unaltered course, fixed by the Scientific Revolution?"

My reaction (in and around muttering about the textbook and the time period): This Idea Is Absurd, Let Me Show You How.

My professor's reaction (there are no other notes on this essay): "100% First-rate essay. Good use of sources; clearly argued and organized. Very well written."

I think I'm going to skip writing the third essay. *solemn*

I think there's some amount of 'omg, she can actually string sentences together! And she attributes where she's getting her supporting arguments!'. But thank you for your jealousy. :)

*amused* Even glee over that does not tend to get you 100%s at the university level, darling. I do that, and my marks aren't that fantastic. ;)

Yeah, but if a fair number of the other students aren't doing that (he was not-quite muttering in class about needing to attribute the ideas, not just the direct quotations), running across one that is will help the grade on that one at least some. I also suspect he grades a bit soft--I was severely depressed last time I was in one of his classes and was still getting 90%s on my overnight-written essays. *palms-up shrug?* I don't know if these grades are an actual indication of academic excellence, but they're still really, really nice to see.

Nah, I had options for three but he only grades two (thus I could've written a third essay and he would have taken the highest two grades). I think I'm willing to accept a 97.5% on this portion of my final grade, really.

Catz of Enlightenment sed yay Newton! but Newton symbol, not Newton cat--theyz cud makz Newton say what they wanted (Newton cat wroted LOTZ).

Catz of Enlightenment argued lotz; argued Newton right, Descartes right, argue, argue, argue. Tools theyz uz from prevus centry includz experimental methods, quantified data, gentlecatz talking to gentlecatz.

Catz of Enlightenment uzed more experimental method publishing than prevus centry; let them getz ideas abuts conbustion, oxidation, levity likes baluns cuz one cat build on prevus cats' 'speriments, goes round few times, more idez, work done each time 'round.

Catz of Enlightenment not juzt gentlecatz--all catz whoz can red can haz opinions, and unlike prevus centry, public catz can shares der opinions. Gentlecatz say 'yay methods!', public catz say 'yay witnesses!'--lotza questions bouts credbility.

Catz of Enlightenment playd with science, maded it different than prevus centry; new idez means new science--Chemistry is good xample--old idez getz new coat, new wayz support.

My first sentence on the essay: "Considering that the phrase 'natural science' first saw use in the Enlightenment (during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the study of nature was generally referred to as 'natural philosophy'), the idea of Enlightenment dependence on science while science itself followed some predetermined course of development is difficult to defend."

Which was the most polite way I could phrase "This question is ABSURD." >.>
