"I could have sworn I knew about--ah," Hernén cut himself off as he craned his neck. "No wonder Baroness Montserrat stopped talking to us."
"Think he's a bargaining chip?" the table asked, sounding like they were stretching under there. They sounded young, light-voiced and probably would be even on two feet, and he still had no idea who that was.
"Why send him in the negotiating party if he's not?" Hernén asked back, nodding to Geoffrey to start packing up the maps.
They wouldn't be using them for a while, anyway.
"In case you were ever curious about what you looked like at that age," he muttered sotto voice in Hernén's direction, "that's pretty much it. Right down to the angry and trying to hang on to it."
"Let's hope it's for different reasons," Hernén muttered back as the wolf under the table slid out to accept the map-cases, freeing up both their hands. Geoffrey absently flexed his fingers, slid his wrist in his sleeves, saw his brother doing the same but more subtly since he was in plain sight.
